Camp 2012 Was a HUGE Success!
Once again, we had a wonderful group of campers and awesome teen buddies and leaders. There were some new teens and leaders this year and we hope they all plan to return next year! It is always a thrill to see the change in the campers as the weekend goes on. They come in not knowing what to expect, sometimes not wanting to even BE there! After bonding with the other campers and their teen buddy and leaders during the craft on Friday night, things began to become less scary for them.
We did a couple of new things this year and by the review of the surveys, it sounded like people enjoyed the changes. As usual, the water slide was the favorite activity and for many, our campfires were very popular- from the s'mores to the rain stick.
On Sunday, we wrapped things up with the usual signing of camp t-shirts, the Memorial Service and Balloon Launch. We then shared one last meal together with campers and their families and it was time to go home. While it is often hard for campers to leave, we remind them that we will see them again at the Reunion in October.
Camp Live, Laugh, Love 2012 will officially be over at the Reunion that is planned for Oct. 20. We will speak to family members and the campers (and their siblings) will make a craft. Then we will all share in a Memorial Service and watch the much awaited Slide Show. But the best part of the Reunion is when the campers receive their very special Teddy Bear that is made from their loved ones` clothing. Nobody needs to point it out- they know immediately which one is theirs.
It is not easy to say goodbye to the campers and their families, but we remind them that they may return as teen buddies when they are of age. We just hope that we helped with their grief journey and they will begin to enjoy life again as they grow.
